Origin
Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida', a tropical tree from Southeast Asia, but it is also common in warmer parts of the United States, such as Hawaii, Florida, and Southern California. The tree is often found in the wild in wooded areas, along the edges of bodies of water or in moist mountain areas and is often grown as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens.
Characteristics
Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida' has a large, dense canopy of leaves and smooth, light gray bark. The leaves are dark green, glossy and oval in shape and can grow up to 5 centimeters long. The tree grows quickly and can eventually reach a height of 15-20 meters. Perhaps the most unique feature of this tree is the aerial roots that grow from the branches to the ground, where they take root and give the tree a large, bushy appearance.
Supervision
When caring for Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida', it is important to place the plant in a well-lit area, but away from direct sunlight. The soil should be constantly moist, but waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root rot. The plant needs high humidity, so daily spraying is recommended in drier climates. Under ideal conditions and care, the plant can stay green all year round. Regular pruning should be considered to control the growth of the tree.
